Jeffrey McDonald
I studied Illustration at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I like to use different types of media such as water color, pen and ink, oils and acrylics. This allows me the versatility to bring images to life in a variety of ways. Some projects are more suited to certain media. Currently I am looking to use my Fantasy art skills to put people into a fantastical world from their own imaginations. I call this "Fantasy Portraits"

I am a college student who loves creating art, and you can find me drawing or painting or doing something related to art in almost all my spare moments. My focus, my favorite thing to draw, is people! I love the human face and form. My hope is that people looking at my art will take as much pleasure from viewing it as I do in creating it.

I work mostly with the image of the human figure. My emphasis is on the male figure and contemporary portraits. These images frequently feature the person or people in some unguarded or relaxed moment. I often choose non-realistic colors to produce a “realistic” representation and often work with the space surrounding the figure to produce a merging figure/space relationship. Some people call my work "expressionistic" and I'd agree with that label. Figure painting has been a time-honored tradition in art, although, in the current status of the art world of installations, video art, ...

John Markese (Palatine, IL, USA)
John Markese is a Chicago area artist that specializes in figurative art and portraiture in a variety of mediums, but most notably oil and acrylic paints and pastels. His style is spontaneous, filled with lively brushwork and agile mark making. The palette John uses punctuates these qualities in his marks and juxtaposes unusual hues to visually describe the human form in interesting ways. He mainly paints from live models and utilizes the time constraints of painting from life to emphasize the intensity of his style. His acrylic and pastel paintings feature human figures whose bodies are...

I am a direct painter who loves to work from life. I know it isn't possible to do that always, but I feel my work is the freshest when I do. My style is colorful and impressionistic, not a photograph , but my depiction and interpretation of the subject . My work is full of emotion due to the trials of living life and my ability to capture someone's essence and spirit on the canvas. I love painting in oil, and pastel as well as charcoal and watercolor. If you sit for me live, don't expect that you will be still, as I enjoy the conversation that allows me to see within your soul and ca...

Teaching myself was imperative, in my mind and I began the long process of observation and study as a prelude to expressing my inner authenticity in art. As I progressed, I found I had a particular affinity for portraiture, enthralled at the prospect of "catching a person's likeness". There is nothing quite like it! But whether it is the splendor of a human face or the light and shadow play of an impressionistic landscape -- to me -- it must be shared.

I am inspired by light, colours and faces. I started drawing with coloured pencils and experimented with watercolours since I was a child. I took many photos of my friends, exploring the effect of light on their faces. I understood that the natural light is more applicable to my work. When the sun shines, it is the right moment for me to take my camera and shoot as many pictures as I could. Portraits inspire me the most, especially the look or glance of a sitter which reveals the personality and hidden emotions. I think big boards or panels give more space and possibility to what ...

When I consider what it means to be able to put what I 'see' down on canvas...I remember what it was like the very first time I picked up a paintbrush and the joy I felt in being able to create something on the blank surface. Once I was able to find resources to enabled me to learn the basic techniques and concepts of oil painting, I was free to reveal and render my own style and interpretation of subjects that I found the beauty and meaning in. My work consists of original & commissioned oil paintings, with the focus on emphasizing color, texture, and form; thereby enhancing the natur...
